The Lansdowne Club was formed in 1986 when a disparate group of Irish business people got together over dinner to discuss how to get on in a new country. Dinner merged with supper and it became clear that to pay for it all …. well, another dinner was required….. and the rest as they say is history!
Our Club gives us all a great way to share our friendships, our successes and our challenges. It also gives us many terrific opportunities to help each other while we enjoy fine food hospitality and great entertainment. Most importantly our Club allows us to stay in-touch with old friends and meet new ones. The Club owes a great debt of gratitude to our founding members and our past and present Board members. They have ensured that our Club has continued to foster lifelong friendships and help maintain the truly unique bond which exists between Ireland and Australia.
Over the last 24 years, many events have been shared in the name of the Lansdowne Club and they have provided a great framework for members to find business contacts, suppliers, partners and importantly, friends. There have been many great occasions over the years and we’d like to take this opportunity to share some of those memories with you.
Our Objective
The Lansdowne Club aims to maintain and expand its role as the premier Irish Business Network in Australia. Events
Each year the Lansdowne Club organises events for members only or larger events to which members are encouraged to invite business guests and friends.
Memorable functions include a lunch held in 1996 for the visiting Irish Tanaiste Mr Dick Spring. Included among our guests that day were the three living past Labour Prime Ministers of Australia, Messrs Whitlam, Hawke and Keating. The Lansdowne Club has hosted varied types of functions including business breakfasts, cocktail parties and dinners. Over the years we have played host to Trade Delegations from Ireland and visiting Irish Ministers.
Of course, the highlight of the year is the Lansdowne Club's Annual St Patrick's Day lunch which has been acknowledged as the largest event of its type in the world, with over 1,000 members and guests enjoying a wonderful day with special guests such as the President of Ireland, Irish Ministers, Australian Prime Ministers and Premiers, world famous entertainers, special guests such as the New York Firefighters and, of course, their business colleagues, family and friends.

Our Sponsors
Sponsors have been very important to the development of the Club even though we do not actively canvas them. To-date sponsorship has resulted from the Club being approached rather than vice versa. We are conscious of the importance of the sponsorship we receive and we do our utmost to ensure that our sponsors receive the maximum possible exposure at our functions. The cost of the Directory is completely covered by such kind sponsorship.
