The Golf Classic provides a corporate style day of golf and entertainment for members to network in a relaxed welcoming atmosphere with clients and colleagues. The Golf Classic has become an established and popular annual occasion on our calendar.  Now entering its 10th year, the golf classic is an Ambrose competition with over 120 players, many more attend the Gala Presentation Dinner afterwards.   After dinner speakers have included Chris Handy, Peter Fitzsimons, Jack Newton, Liz Ellis, Benn Robinson and Dean Mumm.

The inaugural Lansdowne Club Golf Classic was organized by Philip Keane at Castle Hill Country Club in 1999. In 2004 The Golf Classic moved to Terrey Hills Country Club which has provided a first class venue for this first class event.


 The 12th Annual Golf Classic 2010 was held at Terrey Hills Golf and Country Club on Thursday 23rd September 2010.

On 23rd Sep we were delighted to welcome 22 teams to the 12th annual Lansdowne Club Golf Classic, one of the more popular and much anticipated events on our annual calendar.

The championship course at Terrey Hills Golf & Country Club was again the venue and this year we were among the first to play on the new greens. According to John Harrison the Club Pro, the greens were on average 26% bigger which in theory should set-up for more birdie chances...hmmm!

Joining our many friends and Golf Classic ‘tragics’ from previous years were some first-timers,  all of whom were vying for the honours and not to mention bragging rights for the next 12 months. “This could be our year” was a commonly-heard refrain, a bit more loudly from some than others!

After a hearty breakfast & Tullamore Dew Irish Coffee, players headed to the driving range & putting green in a last minute & desperate attempt to iron out age-old swing problems & putting yips before the shotgun start.

At the end of the 18-hole Qualifying Round (4-ball Ambrose) the top 4 teams competed in a Playoff on the 18th hole. As usual the playoff sorted out the men from the boys and in a fine display of solid golf under pressure, last year’s winning team Mahony Dominic Lawyers yet again emerged victorious.

During the presentation dinner we were treated to a fascinating Q&A with our special guests, Waratahs’ captain Phil Waugh and Waratahs’ manager Chris Webb which was a fitting end to another great day.
